FRACTAL ALLIANCES #5 (1961 E-10)

The first page of a two-page, colorful short comic (sketchier than normal, painted in oranges and sunset pinks and yellows). Three people are hiking through the Talkian outback: Talis Errison, Evansen Stark, and Fin Heran, with Fin in the lead using a blue-green HOLOmap. In the first panel, Ev is trailing behind with Talis in between them and Fin on the trail. Ev calls, "Hey Fin, not that mind the trek, but where ARE we?" Talis, looking around at the forest, agrees and says, "Yeah, Ev doesn't even run this far out, av'ae." (Av'ae is an Aetherian term of endearment meaning "love"/"lover".) The second panel shows the three of them progressing uphill, climbing over rocks. Fin calls back, "Not getting bored are you, vi-ae'terias?" (My Aetherians.) Ev laughs. "With the view of the valley and these trees?" Talis scoffs. "No way!" In panel three, Ev and Talis can be see scaling a large boulder in the path; Fin is already past it and above them. Talis is muttering a curse and Ev shouts to Fin that they're, "Loving the rock scrambles too." In the final panel, Ev has surpassed the boulder and Talis and mutters, "Ay vitsas..." Talis pesters them for help getting past the crux..

A 5-five panel continuation with tsame sunset pink-orange color palette. The first panel is a wide establishing shot of an open medow ringed with stone markers. Ev and Talis join Fin and Ev asks, "Fin, what is this place?" Fin faces away from them in the second panel, replying in a shaky voice: "My family's and'meyrah." (Literally: death memorial or memory-of-death.) He turns, eyes watery, and rubs his neck uncertainly. He manages a wobbly smile for Talis and Ev. "I, uh... thought we could meet my siblings together. And... y'know... catch them up to speed. About us," he says. He is very emotional. In the next panel, Ev and Talis stand in shock, having a quick telepathic conversation. "That's a big deal, Vans," Talis projects. "Yes." Ev agrees. "Are we being courted?" Talis asks. "Yes," Ev confirms. All Ev says aloud is "Oh." They and Talis are both blushing slightly. The fifth panel is small and reads: "Ven'akei, the process of gaining sibling approval of one's partner(s)," which implies this is Fin's intention in bringing them to the and'meyrah - to introduce Talis and Ev to his deceased siblings (which he was only recently made aware of).
